The Tengyun project under development by China is aimed at delivering a space plane capable of speeds of Mach 22 in the 2030s. The key element of the Tengyun project is an air breathing engine using hydrogen fuel. The space plan will have both civilian and military applications such as shooting down ballistic missiles, conducting reconnaissance or strike missions from space. The Chinese project seems to focus in two airplanes with the larger one acting as the carrier of the space plane which will be delivered at high altitudes. The Project Tengyun started in December 2016 and is expected to perform its first flight in 2030.
